How billing works
Prepaid balance, no subscriptions, no contracts. You're always in control.
Prepaid balance
Add funds to your account with particle topup. Minimum top-up is $10. Your balance is deducted as you use resources.
Running charges
While a particle is running, you're charged the per-hour rate for its size. Billing is per-second, rounded to the nearest cent.
Stopped storage
Stopped particles keep their disk. You pay a small monthly storage fee to preserve your data while the VM isn't running.
Low balance
When your balance drops below $5, running particles are automatically stopped to prevent unexpected charges. Top up to resume.

What happens when my balance runs out?
When your balance drops below $5, all running particles are automatically stopped. Your data is preserved on disk, and you'll be charged the stopped storage rate. Top up your balance with particle topup and start your particles again with particle start.
Am I charged when particles are stopped?
Yes, but only a small storage fee to keep your disk data. For example, a p1 particle costs just $0.25/month while stopped. You can delete a particle with particle rm to stop all charges.
What's the minimum balance to keep particles running?
You need at least $5 in your account to keep particles running. Below that threshold, running particles are auto-stopped. The minimum top-up amount is $10.
Can I resize a particle?
Not yet. To change sizes, create a new particle with the desired size using particle run myapp --size p4. We plan to add in-place resizing in the future.
How do I add funds?
Run particle topup in your terminal. This opens a Stripe checkout page where you can pay with a credit or debit card. The minimum top-up is $10. Your balance updates instantly after payment.
